hi I am interested also in fractional c02 laser resurfacing i want it on my eyelids because they sag a little i want them tighter would this laser help? and if its done too much will it cause sunken eyelids? i would be grateful for your reply thanks.
Dr. Saluja may be able to better answer this question but our understanding is that sagging can really only be corrected with surgery or a brow life using fillers like radiesse or restylane. Dr. Saluja, please let us know what you think.
To answer the first question, fractional CO2 laser has been done up to Fitz skin type V (there is an article showing that no hyperpigmentation occurred..) But the study was small. I am very cautious with Fitzpatrick skin type IV and I tend to stay away from treating type V.
As far as for Fitz IV a less aggressive approach can be utilized, with the knowledge that you may have to come back and treat again. Also, it may be good to do a test spot on your skin and see how you do at a given fluence and density setting and then adjust parameters accordingly.
As far as the second question. Fractional CO2 can help with the sagging of the skin (dermatochalasis) to tighten the lid. But I will say that if there is significant laxity, then you would have to go down the route of blepharoplasty, because there is only so much tightening that can be done.
I don’t know if we can post photos, but I will try to see if I can download some to show you the level of tightening which can be achieved with fractional CO2, which can be impressive, but does have it’s limits.
I typically use EMLA cream under occlusion for 1 hr. I do give my patients a pain med and a valium (therefore they would need a driver). Patients typically say they experience a 2-4 out of 10 discomfort during the procedure. I do one area of skin at a time, and leave the numbing gel on the other parts and wipe it off only when I am ready to do that particular area. That also minimizes discomfort.
You can also do nerve blocks, however, I find that it typically is not needed.
After the procedure, your face will feel quite hot for about 1-2 hours and that is when cold compresses are done and then the heat dissipates.
I am interested in having the SmartXide DOT Therapy fractional Co2 laser. The facility I am going to visit recommends that I use the ointment they provide for 4-7 days after the treatment and that I can not reapply makeup until that time as well. Why should I use the ointment for so long and what would happen if I didnt use the ointment for that long and applied makeup before the recommended time?

I am now 8 days post op from a Total Fx procedure. The primary reason I chose to do it was for “smokers lines” around my mouth. But I never smoked, so they’ve always bothered me. The PS did my entire face but states “I really let your lips have it” when the procedure was through. Now, at 8 days post op, I have deep striae around my lips with thick perioral plaque and severely intense prickling/itching mostly at nighttime. I can’t smile without pain. The rest of my face seems to be following the normal course of healing but I am becoming very concerned that I am going to have a very bad outcome in regard to lips and mouth. I’m an orthopedic physician assistant so I don’t feel as though I went into this blindly. What I do know, is that I was an attractive woman with some deepening lip lines prior to the procedure and now, I can’t be seen in public without stares. It’s literally disfiguring. Any thoughts from anyone?

Hi, I’m 32 years old indian female. Got the CO2 fractional laser done from cosmetic surgeon 10 days back to cure acne scars and pits. I was promised atleast 50% results after 1st sitting. I’m NOT able to see any results as of now. The skin burned by laser has already peeled off and my old skin (with scars) has resurfaced. I do not see any difference if I look myself in the mirror pre and post treatment. Please guide me if this is normal and is there any chance that my skin will look better as days pass or it will look remain as is. I’m really really concerned as I have spent lot of money on just 1 sitting. Any thoughts are welcome.
My scars are not too deep but yes prominent. I’m not sure about equipment but my surgeon told me its CO2 based fractional laser. All he took was 10 mins to do laser only on affected area on my face and not full face. Can I still hope that my skin will improve as now it looks just the same now after post-treatment redness faded away.
I’m totally disappointed and not sure whether I should really go for second sitting if there is not much improvement anyways and its costing hefty amount. May be I can get similar results with less expensive treatments like MDA and chemical peels. Please guide if it really take long till results visible with laser or I should stop expecting any improvement.
RE: Shary (8 days after procedure and worried about redness)
Traditional ablative CO2 resurfacing (full-coverage/non-fractional) procedures typically produce the most dramatic results, but have always had a much longer recovery period (5+ weeks)than fractional procedures (approx. 5 days.)
When your surgeon “really let your lips have it”, they probably used a very dense setting (80% or more) or made several passes over the same area–which gets closer to being a full-coverage CO2 treatment. Since you haven’t posted any new messages since your procedure, (3 months as of this post), I would assume that the redness eventually went away and your healing has significantly improved. We would love to hear from you again to see how your healing process has progressed…
RE: Simran
Your practitioner was most likely afraid to use a more dense, powerful laser setting due to your darker skin-type (probably Type IV since you are of Indian descent), and thus you may not have received the full benefit of a more aggressive treatment. You should discuss your dissatisfaction with your doctor and request a more powerful follow-up treatment at a reduced fee. I bet they will choose to protect their reputation and your satisfaction by giving you a substantially reduced (or free) follow-up. I know I and my colleagues would.
I am planning to have a fractional CO2 procedure in the near future. However I am confused by the various types – Fraxel Repair, Total FX, Dot, Ultrapulse. Each doctor claims what s/he has is the best (I have consulted with 4 doctors). How do I decide???!!! My issue is wrinkles, no acne scars. Caucasian with medium complexion.
I am a fellowship trained cosmetic surgeon with emphasis on aesthetic lasers. Happy to help.
I am interested in Laser CO2 fractional for rejuvination, but I am doubt about the side effect for our Indonesian patients (color type Fitz 3-4).
And the procedure: it is hurt a lot, and needed a sedation? or just EMLA cream is it enough?
Thank you so much

What laser was used? If the scars are to deep the results after one treatment will be minimal depending on how aggressive the surgeon is.

Has anyone heard of using the fractional CO2 treatment for cutis laxa in inner thighs? Does it seem like something worth trying?
